Context
Dictionary.com defines context as “the set of circumstances or facts that surround a particular event, situation, etc.”At the workshop experiences that I create, we deal mostly with content, with what is going on inside us, the things that we carry from the past, the ideas and beliefs that we use to interpret life. We gain perspective and ability to make huge shifts in our interpretations of life and how we perceive and experience our world. Through this process we find that there is little that we can’t change about our experience if we make the changes inside. At the same time, once we begin on a spiritual path, it is helpful to have our context support our process and experience. For example we can all see that money does not create happiness; there are way too many people that have vast amounts of money and are still unhappy. On the other hand as we develop our purpose and buoyancy in life, money can amplify what we can offer and experience. Our context for money can either support a spiritual path or distract from it, depending on our relationship with it. But it is important to remember that by giving some attention to our financial context we can support our growth.Other contexts that impact our well being, meaning, and purpose in life include our home and work environments, who we spend time with, where we live, what we eat, the weather, exercise, our schedules, possessions, etc. All of these contexts either support the life we want to live or distract from it.As we grow it is important to give attention to our inner content as well as our outer context. When our inner content is off, it makes little different what the context is, we can be unhappy anywhere. When our outer context is off, it can challenge our inner content to be buoyant and alive.Where is the next step for you, is it in your inner content or your outer context?
