Stop!
How many things go through your head about what should be different in your life?My guess is that a high percentage of your thinking is about what is not working or could be better, what you should or should not be doing, what you should have done or have not done, what they should have done or not have done, what you should do . . . etc.Think one of those thoughts right now, and check in to see how that thought makes you feel. When you think that things should be different, it generates a feeling, just pick one feeling and say it or write it down. That is the feeling you generate when you think those thoughts. Now try generating thoughts about what is working in your life, something you did or are doing well in your life today, or may have done yesterday. Is that hard? Should it be? If you are reading this, I already know you are doing things that are worthy of you all of the time. It is just that you are focusing on what could be better and that is a very human thing to do.Really try it. Imagine all the good things about what you are doing, how you are taking care of yourself, something you have achieved. When you think about what you are doing well, it generates a feeling. Just pick one feeling and say it or write it down. That is the feeling you generate when you think those thoughts. In my yoga practice I used to focus on the tightest part when I was doing some pose. I was always bringing my awareness to the most constricted spot, and there is nothing wrong with this from time to time. However, now I am bringing my awareness more and more to the part that feels the best. I can always find a part of my body that feels great, that feels open. When I do this, the rest of my body wants to feel that way too, and the feeling starts expanding, my body feels encouraged to feel great, and as a bonus my yoga has been feeling better and better. It is becoming blissful. What I am suggesting is that we don’t need to focus on the tight spots in our lives to evolve; we can focus on the bright spots. We don’t need to be constantly analyzing our lives to make them better; we can spend more time seeing how great we are.If you need any help remembering how great you are, come to the Mountain Experience, specifically designed to remind you.*Next Mountain Experience is April 25-28, 2013 in Ashland, OR.
