If I Could Change My Life Today….

This is a wonderful time of year to dream in a theme for the next year or the next few months.  Lets forget the resolutions and get to the real stuff: the intentions. If you want to make a change in your life, I recommend doing it in small pieces; they add up to a lot over time.  Pick a theme, an intention, a direction for your growth and change, and you will be surprised by what a little focus and direction will do.I always pick a theme for my current life, a focus for my growth.  Sometimes they are very broad and other times very specific. There have been times when it was about “abundance” or being economically grounded, creating an economic base that supports and inspires my creativity and freedom. One year it was exploring and claiming my masculinity. That year was like a rite-of-passage, an initiation into manhood.Recently I had a focus on gratitude and appreciation of my life. Each of these focuses directed my exploration at different times in my life.  The insights have remained, but there is always an opportunity for a new focus. For me these focuses create challenge and discovery, surprise and excitement. They are like lenses through which I can look at the world and myself.  These lenses allow me to refine and appreciate my experience of life.If you are interested in creating a statement of exploration and intent, use the inquiry method to refine and clarify your awareness.Start with the question:  If I could change my life today I would…Don’t feel like you have to come up with the prefect answer right off. Start with broad or narrow unrefined answers, use a friend, coach, or journal, and keep refining your statements by asking yourself what is behind your wanting of that.  You are narrowing down to what you really want.I will give you an example:If you could change your life today you would…If I could change my life I would have a sailboat. What is behind that? (WIBT?)I want to sail around using the wind in beautiful places with my family.WIBT?I have just been working so hard, and when I get home I am tired and just don’t have time, energy, or desire to connect with my family.  I know how meaningful it would be if I could, but I just feel so disconnected.  When we do things that are fun and outdoors, I feel more able to connect.WIBT?I guess I just want to feel more connected and to have more love and intimacy. So if you could change your life today, what change would you make?If I could change my life today, I would feel more connected. Now transform it into a present affirmative statement…I am connected. When you say this refined statement, feel the power of it, the truth of it, the intent of it.  Now take this intention into your life, imagine it as a seed of intent that will grow in you.  Say it to yourself as you go through the day, act on it, be it, it will continue to flower and grow.  Stay with it until you feel it has fully expressed itself in the way you want it to.What would it be like if everyone around you had these kind of intents to grow and develop aspects of themselves?  What if everyone knew each other’s intent and was there in sanctuary and support? How can you set up sanctuary and support for your intention?  How can you clarify and refine your intention?  What could possibly be more important?Happy New Year!!!!!!
