Feeling Stuck?
It is easy to get stuck. We know that there are events that can trigger a change, a renewal, a new perspective. Many Native American tribes knew this, they had processes and ceremonies to stimulate renewal, ceremonies, rites-of-passage, vision quests, etc…I call these experiences of renewal or profound change “watershed events”, a watershed is an area where all the water runs into the same river system. When we cross out of one watershed into another we often move into a very different situation, like crossing the Rocky Mountains.A life watershed event is when we make a change within ourselves so that we see life differently. We are meant to have these events in our lives. When people come to The Mountain Experience they often report to me later that they measure their life before and after the experience because of their profound change in how they see life.Other watershed events:A near death experience can totally change your perspective.A religious experience can be a watershed event. For me having a child was a watershed event, I could no longer see life in the same way. I decided it was time to get my life moving, thanks Henry. For some people they are seeing that their time of parenting is ending and it is hard to move on. It is possible to make this a watershed event; to have a transformation so profound that life gets deeper and richer. We need watershed events throughout our lives so that we adapt and change as we and our lives change. Watershed events can be spontaneous, like when life gives us a blow or spontaneously rewards us. Watershed events can also be created intentionally with help and support from community and experts in creating transformational experiences, the Native Americans had shamans. Some things that may trigger the need for a watershed experience: deaths, change in career, stagnant relationships, feeling stuck, depression, addiction, lack of inspiration, etc…What have been your watershed events? Are you ready for a change? How will you embrace the change? What will your watershed event be? What resources and support do you need to make the change?
